Introduction to Busy Things

It is no coincidence that Busy Things is LGfL's most heavily-used resource, with over 1 million page turns by London teachers every month. So much more than the sum of its parts (although with so many sections, it would be quite a sum!), it is a wonderfully quirky online educational resource, featuring hundreds of award-winning curriculum-linked games, activities and downloadable resources.

This is a learning resource that quickly engages young minds and retains their interest through quality animation, vibrant colour, wacky sounds and a good injection of Busy Things humour! A clear favourite among EYFS and KS1 teachers, where the importance of play is never underrated, there are already many activities for ages 7+ (Key Stage 2) with lots more being added as part of the update, including resources with a more teacher-led focus.

In case there is any doubt regarding the rigorous pedagogy that underpins the world of Busy Things, it is important to stress that each and every activity is explicitly designed to support individual descriptors from the revised 2014 Primary and EYFS curricula across the Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 & 2 (with curriculum mapping throughout).

This resource uses a responsive website that will scale according to the size of your screen; it will display and function equally well on a mobile, tablet device and desktop computer.

Teacher tools area

Busy Things is packed with NEW features and content, starting off with a brand new welcome screen designed to help you get the most out of Busy Things! A dedicated teacher tools area houses your search features, resource maker and other useful tools. REMEMBER: Teacher tools are only accessible with a teacher login. Teachers can also customise Busy Things throughout the year with a range of seasonal and topical theme backgrounds!

Test KS2 knowledge with our NEW quizzes – 60+ available!

Have fun testing children’s knowledge with our NEW quizzes – perfect as a front of class resource or for children to independently try to beat their previous scores! Teachers can assign quizzes too, giving you great visibility of how children are progressing. Covering the majority of the KS2 maths Curriculum, quiz topics are broken down into year group to match curriculum objectives. There are also some fun grammar quizzes testing knowledge of nouns, verbs, subjects and objects, plus a Shakespeare and Tudor clothing quiz with more topics on the way!

Maths Games for ages 5-11, including Miner Birds - Addition and Subtraction and ‘Splash Dash’

The popular Miner Birds suite has been expanded to include NEW Miner Birds Addition and Subtraction with a wide variety of calculations, customisable for children between the ages of 5 and 11. As with all the Miner Birds games, the aim is to be the first to collect 20 worms by correctly answering maths questions – so not only will children have fun practising their maths skills, they must also employ strategy and logical thinking to succeed!
